| We ride this in both directions. From the north (Granada) its a slow climb up out of the hustle and bustle of the Granada suberbs into the national park along what would have been the main road south ( now replaced by the motorway) . The climb up is gradual over 45km before topping out with superb views over the neighbouring mountains. Once at the top it is a 36km descent to the sea and the town of Almunacar. The approach from the south takes you from sea level to over 1300m over the same 36km. On the way up you get to enjoy the scenery at a better pace. |

Tour of Andalucia
|
| The secret training area of 2011 Tour de France winner Cadel Evans - the Sierra Nevada National Park is ideal for some early season riding in warm Spanish sunshine. During the week we take in the mighty Pico de Veleta and ride to the mediterranean coastal town of Almunacar. The major city of Granada is nearby to Monachil and well worth a visit on your free day.
