The climb for the Col de la Morte starts gently just outside Valbonais and after a series of false flats we hit the last 3 km of the climb up some great Alpine switchbacks. The Col de la Morte sits in the ski resort of the Alpe du Grande Serre which is usually fairly quiet in the summer.

The climb from the north is used in the Marco Pantani Cycling Sportive and the Alpe d'Huez Triathlon.
